Makeup Dupes
As many of us know makeup can be on the pricey side, and that’s exactly why duplicates or “dupes” are helpful. Makeup dupes are basically cheaper drugstore products that share similar characteristics as makeup on the more expensive side. So, it’s an alternative. For example, the color of the dupe is similar, and it may have the same consistency and quality although the expensive makeup may be all-day long-lasting makeup since it is on the higher end.
· Primer: A dupe for the Benefit Cosmetics POREfessional Primer ($32) is the Maybelline Baby Skin Instant Pore Eraser ($70).
· Blush: The dupe for the NARS Orgasm Blush ($40) is the Milani Baked Blush in Luminoso ($80).
· Mascara: The dupe for Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara ($25) is the L’OrĂ©al Paris Double Extend Beauty Tubes Mascara ($7).
· Brow pencils: NYX Micro Brow Pencil ($9.99) is a dupe the Anastasia Brow Wiz ($21).
The list goes on and on because there are hundreds of dupes that can be found everywhere. So, the best suggestion is to find a dupe that works for you, your skin, and the look you’re trying to go for.
Why is Skin Care so Important?
As we all should know, the skin is our biggest organ. It’s our largest barrier against infections so it’s important that we take care of it. The conditions of our skin also affect how our makeup looks. In order to have a smooth looking finished product, the skin needs to have a minimum number of blemishes, blackheads, etc. That’s why having a skincare routine is important. I would suggest doing some research to find products that work for your skin. You wouldn’t want to use a product that is for oily skin when you have dry skin. For my skincare routine I use cleanser, a face scrub that contains salicylic acid, toner, facial serum, and moisturizer, in that exact order, every night. In the morning I usually just use the face scrub, toner, and facial serum. It’ll be different for everyone once they find a routine that works for them because everyone will develop a unique routine and use different products in that routine.
Creating a Natural Makeup Look
Now it’s finally time to get into the steps for creating this look. Keep in mind, everyone has a different way for creating a natural look, they use different products, and they apply the products in different ways. This is what works for me, and I find it very easy to follow along, even if you’re like me, a beginner. The products I use on a day to day basis are usually the same: primer, brow pencil, concealer, foundation, bronzer, highlighter, and mascara.
Apply primer
Use the primer that is best for your skin type and apply it all over face using your fingers to even it out throughout your skin.
Using concealer and foundation
Next, you will use your concealer. Apply it under your eyes, over blemishes and red spots, and areas where your skin looks dull. Using a damp makeup sponge, blend the areas where you applied concealer to make it look smoothly blended in. Now apply the foundation all over your face using a damp makeup sponge, but remember, try not to use a lot of product because that will take the whole purpose away from this look. You should also try to blend this out.
Taking care of small details
Filling in my eyebrows is usually my next step after applying foundation. Although this is a small step, I feel like eyebrows are major to your whole makeup look. For my brows I use an eyebrow pencil. The first thing I do is underline the bottom of my brow shape and then underline the top. Once that is done, I fill in my brows using strokes in different directions. Be sure to use soft, light strokes when filling in the from portion of your brow. Another small detail I take care of is eyeshadow. For this I use my bronzer. Take a small eyeshadow brush and take a small amount of product. Once that is done start off applying this product on the whole eyelid and blending it out. Next, take your brush and get a bit more product than the last time. Now this product will be applied to the crease of your eyelid, so start off by applying it to the outer part of your crease and bringing it in to the inner part of your crease. Again, remember to blend it in.
Last steps
You will next need your bronzer again to contour your face. Take a large, round headed brush and pat it on the bronzer about 3 times. Then tap your brush on your finger to take the excess of the product off. Now apply the bronzer along the hollow part of cheeks. Repeat these steps if the contour isn’t visible yet. Do this to both sides of your cheeks. The next makeup product you will use is highlighter. Just simply use your finger to apply highlighter on your brow bones, cheekbones, and bridge of nose. You will finally take your eyelash curler to prep your lashes for mascara. Apply the mascara to both the top and bottoms lashes, and you’re done.
